Fall for Change: Customized Cut and Color Transformations at Union Beauty

At Union Beauty in Park Slope, we love to customize cut and color looks to create major transformations. Whether you’ve gotten bored or are stepping into a new chapter of life, a radical change takes courage—and a hair team you trust.

In our latest photoshoot, four clients took the leap with Angela, Lawrence, and Ebony. With R+Color, a luxury, clean, toxin-free hair color line that protects hair health while delivering rich performance, the stylists brought their visions to life.

Kelly: The Cherry Cola Shag

Before

hair salon near prospect park features cherry cola color and a shag with bottleneck bangs

After

  • The Vision: Fun, edgy, textured: a stand out look. Kelly was excited and open for anything.

  • The Cut: Angela cut off a foot of length to create a layered long shag with choppy bottleneck bangs. Kelly’s natural hair is very smooth, so this style adds lightness and texture and frames her face.

  • The Color: Lawrence freehand painted balayage with a R+Color in Candy Apple and Neon Orchid gloss, creating a velvety cherry cola tone.

  • The Finish: Angela used R+Co Bleu Highest Volumizing Mousse and Root Boost before blow drying Kelly’s hair, then followed with a micro crimping iron near the root area for extra texture and lift. She finished with Ultra Dry Texturizing Spray.

Heidi: Bright, Bouncy Copper Curls

Before

Union Beauty salon in Park Slope, Brooklyn used R+Color for bright copper curls

After

  • The Vision: Lighter, vibrant, curl-amplifying. Heidi primarily wears her curly hair in it’s natural state.

  • The Cut: Angela removed excess weight and rounded the interior to bring back bounce to Heidi’s slightly coarse coils.

  • The Color: Lawrence cocktailed R+Color Omnipresent and Starsign in a custom multishade copper formula and applied to her greys and brown base for dimensional brightness that popped.

  • The Finish: Angela primarily used Heidi’s natural curl, along with R+Co Turntable Curl Creme and Motorcycle Gel, to form this bouncy shape. After diffusing, she detailed with a small curling iron on a few areas for more polish.

Amy: Luminous Golden Long Layers

Before

Union Beauty, across from the Park Slope Co-Op, uses R+Color for shiny golden color with long ghost layer cut

After

  • The Vision: Transitioning from dark, dull tones.

  • The Cut: Angela chopped 6–8 inches into a sharp perimeter with soft interior layers. This versatile shape can be worn loose and natural or blown out for a more polished finish and is great for a lot of different textures.

  • The Color: Lawrence hand-painted with a balayage technique over Amy’s natural light brown base, creating more brightness around her face. He chose R+Co’s Stellar demi permanent gloss in a customized tone to blend greys and add mega watt shine with bright gold for all over light reflection.

  • The Finish: Ebony enhanced Amy’s golden tones using R+Co Mood Swing Straightening Spray and Bleu Surreal for a soft, silky blowout.

Cindy: Cool Espresso Bob

Before

Union Beauty, at Union Street and 7th ave, uses R+Color for a bold, shiny espresso bob

After

  • The Vision: A spontaneous shift from her long-time red curly layered cut to shine, health, and boldness.

  • The Cut: A precise, sleek shoulder-length bob that works straight or natural. Angela removed length to create a strong perimeter shape and added gentle interior layers to release the curls.

  • The Color: Angela applied cooler natural brown tones with R+Co’s Star Sign to Cindy’s existing red color to bring it down to a rich, cool espresso. Upkeep will be more low maintenance since this base is much closer to Cindy’s natural dark brown color, yet also provide effortless grey blending.

  • The Finish: Ebony applied R+Co Bleu Highest Volumizing Mousse and Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil to add lift and movement while also smoothing her natural texture. The result brings movement and lightness to the density of the new darker color.
