Who we are

Angela Taormino

Proprietress, Master Stylist and Colorist

In 2013, after 10 years of working at top salons in the city, Angela Taormino brought her unique vision and natural style to Park Slope, Brooklyn at the helm of Union Beauty.

Her designs include beautifully integrated cut and color, a keen eye for natural looks, and haircuts that last and last. She counts many curly ladies among her clients, and loves a makeover. Angela is the former Color Director of the Antonio Prieto Salon in Chelsea and most recently called East Village favorite Whistle Salon her home.

She is a graduate of the Aveda Institute in Soho and has completed advanced training in Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon, Eufora, and Goldwell techniques. She has a BA and a Masters in English which really helps during consultations. Check out her Instagram @ataormino

Betina Levine-Rivas

Senior Stylist

A twenty year Park Slope resident, Betina originally received a Fashion Design degree from Philadelphia University, but was drawn to hair styling because of its sculptural quality. Her fifteen year career began at Parlor in the East Village. Next, she worked under Vidal Sassoon trained Penny Wang, who was a tremendous influence on Betina’s style. Betina attended the Aveda Institute in Soho and has trained in advanced Aveda and Eufora techniques. In her time at Union Beauty, she's grown her color skills and loves integrating color into her looks.

Betina is skilled with many textures and cuts, and loves big transformations in particular. She’s especially inspired by clients willing to take risks, and loves designing truly individualistic looks.

Jon Fitje

Styling Specialist

A Long Island native, Jon began his career on the island but has worked in Manhattan for the last twenty four years, including a sixteen year stint at Antonio Prieto Salon. Jon is a seasoned editorial stylist and has styled many New York Fashion Week shows for such designers as Anna Sui, Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Caroline Herrera, and Jason Wu among others. In addition to precision haircutting, Jon specializes in custom bridal and special event styling. His style is best described as effortless elegance for the modern woman, and he can produce an array of classic to contemporary looks. His bouncy blowouts are in great demand, and he is a certified in Lasio Tropic and Arrojo American Wave. A master gardener and decorator, Jon’s decorated Halloween house in Bayside, Queens is a huge neighborhood draw.

Laurie Hefner

Principal Stylist

A 20 plus year industry veteran and former owner of Park Slope’s delightful Pomona Beauty Sanctuary, Laurie began her career with Vidal Sassoon and has continued advanced training over the years with Arrojo, Aveda, and Eufora, as well as in yoga, meditation, and energy work. Laurie has also done commercial hair and makeup for TV, film, and print. She specializes in blonde highlights, short cuts, razor cuts and curly hair, but really loves all hair. Originally from Alabama, this hair artist has a BFA in painting and is a certified yoga/meditation instructor.

Ebony Sims

Principal Colorist

Ebony joined Union Beauty in the spring of 2017 after ten years of industry experience in Riverside, California where balayage blondes, fantasy looks, and textured hair were her specialties. In her time at Union Beauty she has taken her color to another level, becoming our resident expert in fantasy color transformations. Bright blondes and hair painting are some of her gifts. She loves crafting a whole look with color and cut and her updo styling and braiding are inspired. The Steelers and her Jack Russells Braxton and Mooney are her great loves. Check her out on Instagram @ebonysunion

Russel Thompson

Color Specialist

A 25+ year industry veteran with a special emphasis in color, Russel joined Union Beauty in 2019 to build his clientele in his new home, Brooklyn. Originally from Denver, Russel began his career in Los Angeles working with some of the industry’s all-time greats. After leaving LA, he spent 27 years in San Francisco, maintaining a robust clientele and joining forces with Angela Berk to create Carmichael Salon. They also created a specialty hair care line, Two Boys and a Girl. An expert craftsman, Russel is extremely deft at color correction but is a true visionary when it comes to natural, wearable haircolor. After taking some time off to explore the California desert, Russel has fulfilled a lifelong dream of living in New York City. Creative to his core, Russel is happy crafting a new look for a client or remodeling a home.

Jill Janice

Principal Stylist

Jill has been in the industry for nine plus years but has been doing hair since she gave cuts to her Barbies as a kid.  Originally from Miami, she made her way to Dallas where she trained and refined her skills as a stylist.  A Gemini sun with Taurus sensibilities, Jill enjoys offering a variety of color services, from major transformations to maintaining every day looks.  She knows her way around a round brush and prides herself on providing polished style.  When not in the salon, Jill loves listening to music, finding new artists, and practicing her singing: “I sound just like Mariah, but only in the shower.”

Amy Meehan

Senior Stylist

We are so proud to introduce Amy to our team of artists as a stylist and colorist. A Park Slope resident for 22 years, Amy is a curl guru and loves creating a natural look with wearable longevity. She most recently joined from Arte Salon in Nolita where she has worked for 15 years. Amy has an MFA in sculpture and credits carving a human head out of a block of plaster with some of her technical vision and keen type of dimensionality.

Amy works Saturday through Tuesday.  


 

Sam Lysaght

Manager

Originally from the California Bay Area, Sam supports the team of exceptional stylists at Union Beauty through management and operations. With many years of admin experience in non-profit theaters and grassroots dance companies, she is devoted to creating a functional and fun space for creatives to do their work. In addition to making spreadsheets and chatting with UB’s lovely clients, Sam is a seasoned performer, dancing with DIY artist collectives, acclaimed choreographers, and developing her own work. She doesn’t engage with the social media, but you can catch her doing pirouettes or handstands in the back of the salon.


 

Kameo Latortue

Front Desk Coordinator 

Kameo comes to Union Beauty with over ten years of luxury hospitality experience. He is a true people person who loves creating new relationships with clients and exceeding customer needs at the front desk. A Haitian-American Brooklyn native, Kameo brings a warm energy and a depth of organization to the salon. Outside of Union Beauty, Kameo is a recording artist, making music and performing with his twin brother Romeo under the title Ehrie. He looks forward to playing all the 90s jams at the salon.
